David Schmidt, M.D. received his medical degree from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine. He went on to complete his residency in General Surgery at Emory University. He is board certified in surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Schmidt is a member of the Medical Association of Georgia, Southern Medical Association, Southeastern Medical Association, Gwinnett-Forsyth County Medical Society and Georgia Surgical Society. Dr. Schmidt treats patients with all types of general surgical problems. These include gallbladder disease and hernias, including inguinal, ventral incisional and complex abdominal wall reconstructions. Dr. Schmidt has extensive experience in treating endocrine disorders including thyroid, parathyroid, pancreatic, and adrenal pathologies using minimally invasive surgical techniques. Dr. Schmidt is also a leader in single incision laparoscopic procedures, and has performed the most single incision color resections in the southeast. He has a special interest in minimally invasive procedures and advance abdominal laparoscopic surgeries. In his spare time, Dr. Schmidt enjoys leading a healthy and active lifestyle with his wife Nancy, their rescued dog Rafa and their children, Adam and Todd. Adam is a graduate of the University of Georgia and The Charleston School of Law. Todd is a graduate of Georgia Tech, both undergrad and graduate school, now working as an engineering market analyst. Dr. Schmidt enjoys daily CrossFit workouts and looks forward to completing his yearly Peachtree Road Race with his family. Dr. Schmidt welcomes new patients and accepts most insurance plans.
