About Dr. Meng The first in his family to become a physician, Daniel Meng knew in his junior year of college that he wanted a career in medicine. "I had a job as an orderly at a local hospital," he says. "That experience sparked my desire to become a doctor." That was back in 1973. Today, you will find him at Beacon Medical Group Advanced Cardiovascular Specialists South Bend. What led him to his particular specialty? "In layman's terms, I diagnose and treat people with any kind of heart related issue, such as clogged blood vessels, pump failure and electrical instability," Dr. Meng explains. "I personally believe this specialty provides positive outcomes for my patients and helps them live their best lives - and I find a great amount of satisfaction in that." If his patients have taught him one thing over the years, it's humility. He believes in evidence-based care that is ethically sound and fiscally responsible. But, perhaps more importantly, he wants his patients to know: "I always have their best interests in mind." In his own words... Who is or was the most influential person/role model in your life? My College Chemistry professor who told me, "Don't just wait for opportunity to happen; go make it happen!" What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? I was an orderly at a local hospital, doing the little things to help patients feel better. What is your favorite food? Movie? My favorite food is pizza. My favorite movies are the Indiana Jones series. What were your best/worst subjects in school growing up? Math came naturally to me, but I have nightmares about English literature. If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? Paul, the Apostle. What drove him to give up all he had and became one of the most prolific authors of the New Testament? In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? What are your hobbies, interests? I am passionate about counseling people to help them live an abundant life. What is something most people don't know about you? I can't think of anything. I have lived a transparent life.
