About Mason Mason Haye first became interested in medicine when he was a patient himself. "When I was a multi-sport athlete in high school, I sustained my fair share of injuries," he explains, "but it was when I had to get surgery and progress through the recovery process that the field of medicine and my desire to help others took center stage." He originally began his career as an athletic trainer and later made the decision to pursue a master's in physician assistant studies. As a physician assistant, Mason examines and counsels patients, diagnosing illnesses and injuries, requesting diagnostic tests, interpreting results, creating treatment plans, prescribing medications, performing medical procedures and assisting in surgical procedures. He chose to practice at Beacon to be part of a cohesive group of professionals that work together as a team. "That was my first impression of Beacon," he says. "Every person I met was welcoming and friendly, as well as professional." When it comes to his philosophy on patient care, Mason holds true to his personal values of compassion, empathy and respect for every patient and believes that education and trust are vital to the success of any treatment plan. "I want to ensure that all my patients' questions are answered and that they understand the reasoning behind each treatment option so they can be involved in the process and make informed decisions." In His Own Words Who is or was the most influential person/role model in your life? I would say my father. He had a phenomenal work ethic and put his family first. What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? My first job was a courtesy clerk at my family's local Safeway grocer. I can recall how often people don't return their carts and how often public restrooms should be cleaned. Most importantly, I remember how important a good work environment is. What is your favorite food? Movie? Favorite food would be a chipotle chicken cheesesteak sandwich. Movie would probably be either Stepbrothers or Miracle. What were your best/worst subjects in school growing up? My best subjects were the sciences, especially biology. Worst probably would've been English. In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? I am passionate about maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle. My fiancée and I enjoy traveling, camping and hiking. What are your hobbies, interests? I'm a big sports guy, primarily professional football and ice hockey. When I'm able to, I try to participate in recreation leagues. Do you have pets? Yes, I always had dogs growing up and currently have a cat. What is something most people don't know about you? I've met three different presidents in person.
