South Portland Comprehensive Treatment Center (CTC), located in South Portland, Maine, is a medication-assisted treatment (MAT) facility. Adults age 18 and older can receive MAT for an addiction to opioids such as heroin or prescription painkillers. Those who participate in MAT at South Portland CTC receive a prescription for a medication such as methadone or Suboxone to help reduce the severity of physical withdrawal symptoms. MAT also incorporates a therapeutic component in the form of group and individual counseling sessions. These sessions are designed to help adults address the underlying causes of their struggles with addiction so that they can prepare for a future that is free from opioid use.
