Nebraska is located in the central region of the United States. The territory that encompasses Nebraska was originally acquired in the 1803 Louisiana Purchase. The state's main product is corn. This is probably the reason for the nickname of the state which is the Cornhusker State. More than six Native American tribes are indigenous to the state. These tribes include Arapaho, Souix, Comanche, and Oglala. These tribes are primarily found in the west region of the state. In the central and eastern regions are the Pawnee, Oto, and Omaha tribes. Before the Native Americans there were many prehistoric peoples that inhabited the area. These peoples date back to 8000 BCE.

The states' name, Nebraska, has its roots in the Native American languages. The name actually means flat water. It is speculated this name was given to the region because of the predominance of the Platt River that runs through the state. In 1867 Nebraska became the 37th state admitted to the union, soon after this the population dramatically increased. The population is estimated at 1,770,000 residents. Among the many cultural influences in Nebraska are Hispanic, Asian, and African American. The bulk of the population is Caucasian at 87.3%. There is even a foreign born population making a showing at 4.4% of the state's residents. The average resident is around 35 years old and makes in the mid 20,000 range to the high 30,000 range in income each year. The poverty levels are at a mere 9.7% of the overall population of the state.

There are many National Parks that are available for camping, sightseeing, or a relaxing day. Some of these locales include Agate Fossil Beds National Monument, Chimney Rock National Historic Monument,Mormon Pioneer National Historic Trail, and Scotts Bluff National Monument. There are also two National Forests, the Nebraska, and Samuel R McKelvie forests that allow visitors as well. Nebraska is considered a part of the region referred to as Tornado alley. the state is prone to violent thunderstorms and tornadoes. The weather systems are conducive to these conditions are typically prevalent in the spring and summer months, but a tornado or two has been seen in the fall as well.
